Special conference with Khaled Awad, Director of property development for “Masdar Initiative” - Abu Dhabi

MIPIM Horizons, the first international professional property market dedicated to high-growth regions, today announces that Khaled Awad, Director of Property Development at Abu Dhabi Future Energy – the company driving the innovative Masdar Initiative – will deliver a special keynote address: “Masdar City: Today’s Source for Tomorrow’s Energy” (Masdar City: Building sustainable real estate in emerging countries) – on 3 December, 4:00 - 5:00pm.

In April 2006, Abu Dhabi took the bold and historic decision to embrace renewable and sustainable energy technologies. Khaled Awad will discuss how the innovative Masdar City Initiative intends to transform the renewable energy and sustainability market by creating the world’s first car free and zero carbon zone, completely powered with renewable energy. He will demonstrate that sustainability is not only viable, but also an attractive element for all property developments.

The Masdar Initiative is a global cooperative platform for open engagement in the search of solutions to some of mankind's most pressing issues: energy security, climate change and truly sustainable human development. “Masdar City intends to become the ‘silicon valley for renewables’ creating an entirely new economic sector for the UAE,”comments Khaled Awad.

Khaled Awad is the Director of Property Development at Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company – the company driving the Masdar Initiative. The key objective of Masdar is to position Abu Dhabi as a world-class research and development hub for new energy technologies through building an alternative energy city, with special carbon management systems and sustainable technology innovation and investment.

Khaled Awad is currently overseeing the development in Abu Dhabi of the Masdar Zone, the first zero carbon and zero waste city in the world. Prior to his role in Masdar, M. Awad has been working in the construction industry in the Arabian Gulf for more than 22 years. He was the founder and CEO of various companies in construction and real estate, dealing with the supply and IT side of the industry as well as concept development of large scale projects.
