The agency reported that Tencent indicated the upcoming issuance would finance capital expenses for investments in artificial intelligence.

Bloomberg's sources indicated that Tencent is anticipated to conclude the offering terms on Tuesday, October 13. The firm intends to release multiple tranches of dollar-based bonds amounting to between $1.5 billion and $2 billion, along with bonds in Chinese currency valued at 20–25 billion yuan ($3–3.7 billion).

Bloomberg reported that Tencent will allocate the funds for various corporate needs, including financing capital expenditures. A considerable amount of these funds will be allocated for buying chips, the agency stated. Tencent did not reply to Bloomberg's inquiry for a statement.

Tencent is increasing its investment in artificial intelligence to compete with rivals like Alibaba and ByteDance, the owner of TikTok. In the second quarter of 2026, Tencent's investments in AI and computing resources rose by 176% to reach 52.8 billion yuan ($7.9 billion). This led to a negative free cash flow of 13.8 billion yuan ($2.06 billion).

According to sources from Bloomberg, Tencent's capital spending is expected to stay elevated until the conclusion of 2026 and into 2027. They assert that, considering second-quarter data, the company's yearly expenditures may surpass 200 billion yuan ($29.9 billion).
